The Man Who Learnt to Pray

Here is a rhyming poem about David Brainerdโ€™s devotion to prayer.

David Brainerd โ€” The Man Who Loved to Pray

In lonely woods where cold winds blew,
David sought the God he knew;
Away from crowds, away from care,
He found his strength upon his prayer.

Through winter snow and bitter cold,
He prayed for every precious soul;
No church, no pulpit did he need,
He knelt with God and interceded.

His body weak, his spirit worn,
Still he would pray from night till morn;
For those who had not heard Godโ€™s Word,
He cried until his prayer was heard.

He did not seek the praise of men,
But sought the face of God again;
His secret place beneath the sky
Became his meeting place on high.

He prayed when answers seemed so slow,
He prayed when he could scarcely go;
He prayed believing God could save,
And all he had to Christ he gave.

Then hearts were touched and tears would fall,
As Christ became their All in All;
The seed was sown, the Gospel spread,
For Brainerd prayed while others slept.

His earthly journey soon was done,
But still his testimony runs:
A life of prayer is never vain
When offered in the Saviourโ€™s name.

So when youโ€™re weary, do not fear,
For God is closer than you hear;
Like Brainerd, find that secret place,
And seek the Lord and know His grace.

For knees that bend before the Lordโ€จCan reach where human hands cannot;โ€จThe world may never know your nameโ€”โ€จBut Heaven knows the prayers youโ€™ve prayed.

โ€œPray without ceasing.โ€โ€จโ€” 1 Thessalonians 5:17
