The Healing Grace of Forgiveness

When someone wounds your heart within,
Don’t let it fill your soul with sin;
Though painful memories may remain,
Forgiveness breaks the heavy chain.

When friends forsake and loved ones fail,
And bitter thoughts begin to sail,
Remember Christ upon the tree—
He freely gave His life for thee.

“Forgive our debts,” we humbly pray,
“As we forgive” from day to day;
For mercy shown to those who fall
Reflects the Lord who pardons all.

Forgiveness does not call wrong right,
Nor hide injustice from the light;
You still may wisely guard your door,
Yet choose to hate that soul no more.

When painful memories return,
And old wounds once again may burn,
Forgive once more and kneel in prayer—
The healing Saviour meets you there.

Your pastor, church or closest friend
May wound the heart they should defend;
Your family may turn away,
But Jesus never will betray.

Don’t let resentment rule your mind,
But leave the painful past behind;
Place every burden in God’s hand—
He sees, He knows and understands.

For bitterness will bind the soul,
But Jesus comes to make us whole;
Forgiveness breaks the darkest chain
And lets the wounded live again.

Respect is earned and trust may grow,
But mercy freely we can show;
Because our Lord forgave our sin,
We must let grace and love begin.

If hatred rises, let it be
For sin that nailed Christ to the tree;
But love each soul and always pray
That they may find the Saviour’s way.

So when the road is hard and long,
Let Christ become your strength and song;
For God still knows, God loves and cares—
And heals the heart that comes in prayer.
