Only One Life

Only one life—it soon will pass,
Like morning mist upon the grass;
The years may come, the years may go,
But when they end, we do not know.

The wealth of earth will fade away,
Its gold and silver cannot stay;
No house or treasure can we keep,
When in the grave our bodies sleep.

But every deed performed in love,
Is seen by Christ who reigns above;
Each prayer we pray, each soul we guide,
Will live beyond life’s eventide.

We are not saved by works we do,
But by God’s grace, so rich and true;
Through faith in Christ, our sins forgiven,
We find the only road to Heaven.

So give the Lord your strength and days,
And use your voice to sing His praise;
For work performed in Jesus’ name,
Will stand when earth has lost its fame.

One day before His throne we’ll stand,
Our lives revealed before His hand;
May we then hear our Saviour say,
“Well done—you walked the faithful way.”

Only one life—it soon will pass,
Earth’s brightest glory cannot last;
But what is done for Christ alone,
Will shine forever near His throne.
